If you've been paying attention to the

Miley Cyrus drama
'The Last Song' -- a book and movie
Nicholas Sparks ('The Notebook') wrote with Ms. Miley in mind -- here's what you already know: Cyrus plays Ronnie, a disaffected high school senior who is shipped from New York City to North Carolina after the divorce of her parents for a summer to stay with her father (
Greg Kinnear), only to meet someone who changes everything.
Well, this new exclusive behind-the-scenes of 'The Last Song' aims to tell you something you
don't know: that the girl famous for playing a Disney pop princess and performing
awkward, suggestive dance routines might also be a pretty good actor.
Aside from some brief scenes -- a quiet moment between Ronnie and her mother (
Kelly Preston), beach shots with
Liam Hemsworth, who plays Ronnie's love interest -- the new clip mostly features gushing commentary from director
Julie Ann Robinson and the rest of the cast about Cyrus' surprisingly solid acting chops.
"She's so fearless," says Robinson. "Emotionally speaking, she's just so brave."
But aside from sopping up compliments, Cyrus also takes some time during the clip to talk about what playing Ronnie, a wayward musical prodigy, means to her.
"It's kind of my breakout moment away from what people know me as," she says. "This is more of an edgy role."
'The Last Song' hits theaters March 31.
