Miley Cyrus seems to have found a new companion in a German sherpherd as she turned up for a session in Hollywood with the white dog in tow.

The dog was a gift from her parents, who wanted her to have a dog just like one her father Billy Ray owns.

The 17-year-old has named the dog 'Mate', which is inspired by her current love, Melbourne-born actor Liam Hemsworth, who got her hooked on the using the word, Daily Mail reported.

On her official blog, Cyrus wrote, "It's so great that Mate is a puppy so I can take him everywhere. But it won't be long until he's his full size!"

Cyrus met the Australian actor Liam Hemsworth, 19, on the set of the coming-of-age drama The Last Song, March 30,2010
