Miley Cyrus 'Sold' On Liam Hemsworth After First Date

Miley Cyrus had no doubt that she and Liam Hemsworth, her "Last Song" co-star and real-life boyfriend, would have chemistry after she met him for the first time. As soon as he arrived at Starbucks for their first "co-star" date, she knew that he was the right guy for her and for the part.

"He's cute. He plays my boyfriend in the movie, which is very convenient," she joked when she stopped by "The Tonight Show" to chat with Jay Leno on Thursday. "I met him two weeks before filming. We went on a Starbucks date. That's what you do when you meet your co-star that you have to be kissing for months and months and months, and I was sold."

That encounter made kissing him on the very first day of filming very easy. "[Our first kiss] was on the first day of filming in the movie," she said. "We have this scene where we frolic in the water. So I frolic very well apparently, and after that I got to keep him."

Cyrus and Hemsworth have only been dating for about 10 months, but she says that they've already checked out each other's parents to see how well they will age in the future. "He looked good and he's got a full head of hair," she said about her beau's dad. And as for her mom, Tish, Cyrus joked, "My mom's hot, so ... No, I'm very aware [she's hot]. I think that was the only reason why I had any guy friends."

Miley Cyrus And Liam Hemsworth Walk The Red Carpet For The Last Song

Check out our first look at Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth walking down the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere of their new film, The Last Song. Doesn't Miley look gorgeous in her leather dress? She and Liam make a beautiful couple. Set and shot primarily in Tybee Island, Georgia, nearby Savannah also served as a movie location for The Last Song. Sparks originally envisioned the story unfolding in North Carolina (as do many of his stories), and Disney Pictures originally planned to make the movie there. Several states engaged in an incentives “bidding war” for the production, however, and Georgia ultimately triumphed.

When the location manager found it difficult to recreate Tybee Island to look like North Carolina, the scriptwriters were persuaded to change the story’s setting. Sparks’ novel of the same name – which, interestingly, was actually finished after the screenplay – remains set in North Carolina.

The Last Song's storyline centers on Veronica “Ronnie” Miller (Cyrus), a 17-year-old former prodigy pianist who was angered by her parents’ divorce and abandoned her musical studies as a result. Frustrated, Ronnie’s mother (Preston) sends the teen to summer with her father (Kinnear), a former concert pianist and Julliard School professor who moved to laid-back Georgia after the divorce. Initially, Ronnie is miserable in the sleepy community and generally hostile toward everyone she encounters, including the handsome Will Blakelee (Hemsworth). As the summer unfolds, a relationship with Will develops and helps her reconnect with her father and, ultimately, with her art.

Cyrus does not sing in the film (although one of her songs is incorporated in the soundtrack), but she learned to play classical piano for the part. She also received training to lose her Southern accent since it wouldn’t fit with the New York-born-and-raised Ronnie characterization. The young star told MTV last September:
I changed a lot when I was in Tybee Island. I feel like art really does imitate life. So just showing this movie, I feel like I'm really showing a part of my growth as a person as well. So I'm really excited for people to see it, just because of what it means to me, personally."

When asked earlier this month at the Academy Awards, the 17-year-old Cyrus confirmed she is dating her 19-year-old co-star, Liam Hemsworth, and coyly answered, “maybe” when asked if she was in love.

Alexz Johnson Style Interview

At the age of 18, British Columbia born Alexz Johnson landed the role of a lifetime playing music competition winner Jude Harrison in the award winning drama series Instant Star. For four seasons Alexz was able to combine her own musical talent with her passion for acting starring in the hit show that made her a star in Canada and throughout the U.S. The show ended in 2008 and during her hiatus from filming, Alexz has had the chance to re-invent herself and work with songwriters from around the world.

On March 30th, Alexz will release her debut album, entitled Voodoo, with Orange Lounge Recordings new imprint, inDiscover. The concept of the album is reminiscent of something out of old Hollywood. The tracks, which were all written by Alexz and her brother Brendan, are listed as scenes and the album’s art direction is based on old ‘50s style films. Christopher Turner, Sympatico’s Fashionist, had the chance to sit down with Alexz at a recent Toronto photo shoot and ask about her evolving style, her upcoming music video, her love of vintage and more…here’s what she had to say:

Christopher: Tell me a little bit about your personal style… how would you describe it?
Alexz: My sense of style, well I always try to go by the rule that you wear the clothes and that the clothes don’t wear you! I don’t feel like I’m super trendy, I just go with classic styles, but I also really love French New Wave. But, comfort is the most important thing on stage.

Christopher: Is there a difference in what you wear onstage as opposed to offstage?
Alexz: Definitely. I am very ‘less is more’. I try not to go overboard on stage because I want it to be more about the music.

Christopher: I know you have a show tomorrow night here in Toronto. Tell me about your on-stage style.
Alexz: It changes all the time! Usually it’s black pants, a black jacket, maybe a sheer tank top. Sometimes there’s a hat. Maybe a great jacket with shoulder pads, or a men’s suit that’s really fitted. I like structure but I don’t want the audience to focus on what I’m wearing… I want it to be about the music. I’m not trying to be a fashion designer, but I do like to have fun with fashion!

Christopher: What is your one must-have fashion item?
Alexz: It’s all about the jacket!

Christopher: Let’s talk about the cover of your upcoming album Voodoo! I heard you may have had a little to do with the styling and the concept…
Alexz: I did! What was so cool about this entire process was I got to be so hands on creatively. I just had this idea – old cinema covers. Each song on the record really represents a different theme from a movie, and I wanted to capture that on the cover.

Christopher: I also heard you shot the video for your first single in January. What kind of style can we expect to see you rockin’ in it?
Alexz: We shot Trip Around the World in New Orleans. It was a blast. There are lots of hats and lots of the 1960s!

Christopher: Do you work with a stylist yourself or do you try to stick to your own personal style?
Alexz: I’ve worked with some great stylist! But I also know what I like and I know what I don’t like.

Christopher: What’s the most stylin’ music video you’ve ever seen?
Alexz: The Kooks – Ooh La

Christopher: Who are a few of your favourite designers?
Alexz: It’s heartbreaking about Alexander McQueen. He was revolutionary. I also love Stella McCartney.

Christopher: You have one day out shopping and an unlimited budget – what would you buy?
Alexz: I find some of my best pieces in vintage stores so I would definitely go vintage shopping. But I would also want to hit Holt Renfrew and find some great jackets!

Christopher: If you weren’t singing…
Alexz: I’d probably have been a doctor, or focused on humanitarian work! I get really passionate about anything I do, and I like to connect with people.

Christopher: I hear you like to do your own makeup
Alexz: Yeah I’m kinda funny that way. I’ve been working in film with makeup artist since I was 12 and I really know what works for me, but I do like to have fun with make-up.

Christopher: What are some of your favourite products?
Alexz: I love Smashbox and Kiehl’s, Aveda hair products and Nars eye shadows. Laura Mercier has amazing concealers. Mac lipsticks…

Christopher: Favourite item in your makeup bag is?
Alexz: It’s a tinted lip and cheek stain called “benetint” from Benefit Cosmetics.

Christopher: I love your jewelry. Are you a big accessory girl?
Alexz: I’m not actually a big accessory person. But the jewelry I do wear, they were all gifts and are really special to me.

Christopher: You’ve just flown in from L.A. Any L.A. red carpet experiences you want to share?
Alexz: I was at this event on Friday and I got to wear this beautiful dress designed by Julia Clancey (www.juliaclancey.com) from London. She’s an amazing designer. There were all these dresses and I got to pick out this dress to wear to a pre-Oscar party. It was beautiful.

Christopher: Speaking of the Oscars. Who were your picks for “Best Dressed” on this year’s red carpet?
Alexz: Helen Mirren was incredible and Sandra Bullock looked beautiful. Jeff Bridges looked awesome!

Christopher: What about past red carpets? Does anything stick out in your mind?
Alexz: Sharon Stone when she wore that white dress shirt!

Voodoo is available on-line now and in stores on Tuesday March 30, 2010!

How Miley Cyrus Found Love When Her Boyfriend Opened the Door

Miley Cyrus's boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth, opened the door to the pop singer's heart – literally.

When the couple, who have been dating about 10 months, first met on the Tybee Island, Georgia, set of The Last Song, "he opened the door for me," Cyrus tells Ellen DeGeneres on The Ellen DeGeneres Show set to air March 31. "I was like, I have been in L.A. for three years and I don't think any guy has actually opened the door for me."

That polite gesture made quite the impression on the 17-year-old: "I was like, wow, that is super impressive. I actually turned to the director and said, 'He's got the job.' He's hot and he opened the door. Excellent."

There were some early stumbling blocks, admitted Cyrus, who said she was taking a hiatus from dating when she met the Australian actor, 20.

Miley Cyrus: Liam's Parents Love Her

We're all aware that Miley Cyrus is dating Liam Hemsworth, her hot, tall Australian Last Song costar and that they’re all official, but just how serious is it? Well, she's already met his parents...

"Yeah, they loved her," Liam tells Michael Yo on tonight's Daily 10. Mom and pop Hemsworth were introduced to their son's GF on a recent trip to his hometown in Australia.

"It was really cool to show Miley where I'm from and how I grew up, and it's a completely different world to where she's from," Liam went on. "We don't have shopping centers or traffic lights or anything like that, where I live at least."

And Miley says she loved it Down Under, too—mostly because the paparazzi there are way cooler than the ones here...

"It was awesome, I really like Australia," Miley tells M.Yo. "You know what? The media's really cool there, too. Even though there's paparazzi, they kind of stay their distance; it was kind of like Nashville by the sea actually, the town he's from."
